How to Make Your Own Gift Wrap

How to Make Your Own Gift Wrap gives you all the instructions you need to make your own decorative paper to put on your gift.

After all the time and trouble you invested on a gift I'm sure you want to make the outside look good. How to make your own gift wrap ideas are easy and much less expensive than traditional store bought paper or costly gift bags.

You can make your own gift wrap, it will be unique and it's really a very easy craft. Your kids will enjoy helping you make your very own personalized wrapping paper too. It's a fun and creative way to combine saving money and some great quality family time. It will get everyone's imagination moving and bring out the creativity that's hidden away inside you and your kids.

To start with you will need a big piece of paper. It can be brown paper or tissue paper. Find a stencil or a stamp with a design that you like. Get some markers, crayons or paints and your on your way.

Stencils can be cookie cutters, designs you have traced and cut in cardboard, leaves...the possibilities are endless. Cut a potato in half and carve a design on one half...you have just made a stamp.

Another stamp idea is as close as the kitchen sink. You can dip a sponge in a watercolor paint or an ink pad and decorate your paper with that.

You can personalize the wrapping paper by including the person who is getting the gifts name on the paper.

You can use glitter, glue, pictures, stamps, buttons, just about anything. You can draw stars and moons on the paper, make circular designs or cover the paper with hearts. Just choose a pattern you like and repeat it.

If you like, you can make your paper like a card. Have everyone in the family write a little greeting on it, some special message and sign their name.

You can use colored tissue paper to make delightful designs. Take a piece of white tissue paper and cut designs in it. Wrap the gift in a different piece of colored tissue paper. Then use the white tissue with the designs and wrap over the gift. Your colored paper will show where the white tissue has been cut. That's a pretty look and you can choose whatever colors you like.

Choose some nice ribbon and make a pretty bow! Curling ribbon makes great gift bows because, like it's name implies, it curls nicely and makes a great gift ornament. If you have any silk flowers you can tie them into the ribbon to make a little bouquet near the center of your ribbon.

It's amazing how easy it is to make your own wrapping paper and it's a lot of fun too.
