When was Jasper Hale born?
Jasper Whitlock was born in 1843 and died in 1863. He was a major in the Confederate Army in Texas when he was killed and turned into a Vampire by a women named Maria. Since he was valuable in training new Vampires, due to his army training and his special ability, that became his position in this new life. He trained new Vampires to fight, and after about a year when they began to weaken, he killed them. It was a vicious and disheartening way for him to live. After 100 years he left that clan and began to search for something else.
He found it in 1948 in the city of Philadelphia. When Jasper walked into a diner, Alice CullenAlice Cullen, was there waiting for him. She looked at him and said, "What took you so long?" and Jasper answered, "Sorry, Ma'am". Alice took his hand, and for the first time in over one hundred years, Jasper felt hope.
Why is Jasper's name Hale in the novels? Since Jasper and the Cullen's all live together as adopted siblings it was decided that since Rosalie wouldn't give up her name, Hale, and since Jasper and Rosalie Hale resemble each other, that they would share the Hale surname.
Jasper is 6'3", lean and muscular. His body is covered with the scars of hundreds of newborn Vampire bites from his days with Maria. Humans cannot see the scars, but to other Vampires, Jasper is a frightening sight.
Jasper has the ability to alter the emotions of those around him. He uses this ability several times in the books to calm Bella. Jasper is one of the families best fighters and with his military background is considered to be the best strategist. He trains Vampires and the Quileutes in preparation for the fight with the new born Vampire army and the Volturi in the later books of the Twilight Saga.
