Carved Pumpkin With Spiders and Rats
by Jillian The Pumpkin Queen
(Edison, New Jersey, The Garden State, USA)
We saw this carved pumpkin with spiders and rats at the Giant Pumpkin Carve this October. We took a picture of it with and without lights, plus a view from the side.
It was not the most awesome pumpkin at the Carve but we wanted to show it to you anyway. If you love spiders, webs and rats you may like it...in fact, it could be your favorite!
Everyone's taste in carved pumpkin designs is different and that's why there are so many templates and designs to choose from when you want to carve your pumpkin. This year I bought an electric pumpkin carving tool...I haven't had a chance to try it out yet...but I am excited about it. Yes, excited...after all, I am the Pumpkin Queen!
I usually use a hand held tool set like the ones you can find at our Pumpkin Decorating Kits
page. These simple to use carving tools include a saw of some kind, a poker and a scooper. The saw cuts the pumpkin, the poker or puncher pokes holes in the pumpkin to guide you while you are cutting and the scooper helps you to scoop out all the pumpkin meat and seeds...save those seeds and use our roast pumpkin seeds recipe to roast up a delicious treat!
This carved pumpkin was one of 60 we found in Salem Country, New Jersey at the annual Giant Pumpkin Carve. And they were pretty big pumpkins...each weighed in at about 50 pounds each. This annual fund raising event is held for Meals on Wheels, so if you are ever in the neighborhood in October look for it. It's a wonderful way to spend the day with your family. If you go make sure to take pictures of these giant carved pumpkins and be sure to post some of the pictures here on our pumpkin pictures page!
